Vice President & General Manager
About the role
Nexstar Media, Inc., America’s largest local broadcasting company, is seeking a highly motivated Vice President/General Manager to lead WIAT (CBS) in Birmingham, Alabama (DMA #45), as well as all digital, mobile, and social assets associated with the station. The GM will also serve as the station’s Director of Sales.
Responsibilities
- Utilize proven skillsets and extensive experience in leading broadcast operational teams with sales-driven organizations, including a strong understanding of advanced digital ad solutions, and new business development.
- Develop and drive locally originated content for multiple platforms (OTT, linear, web, social), increase audience engagement, and enhance overall reach.
- Promote a winning culture of teamwork within all station departments and maintain a focus on operational efficiencies and growth in programming performance and new local revenue generation.
Requirements
- A minimum of five years of leadership experience at a commercial broadcast television station with accompanying digital assets.
- A seasoned and knowledgeable professional with a strong background in local broadcasting and digital service to the community.
- An exemplary strategic vision, focused execution, and a verified understanding of local outreach and community involvement.
- A deep experience driving new business development, managing inventory, rates, political sales processes, and revenue forecasting.
- A proven track record of managing high-performing sales and news teams, and effective collaboration with department heads and staff members to promote teamwork within all areas of station operations.
- The ability to engage local community leaders and develop long-term relationships with key station clients.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, business administration, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in broadcast management, sales, and content creation.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
