Vice President, Commercial Underwriting - SBA
About the role
As a Vice President, SBA Commercial Underwriter III in Business Banking, you'll underwrite complex loan requests and renewals for working capital lines of credit, commercial real estate loans, term loans, formula-based lines of credit, traditional asset-based lines of credit, and other Bank lending products.
You'll build internal relationships by collaborating with lending officers on credit matters and loans involving unusual situations or requiring close scrutiny. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing for SBA eligibility, loan structure, financial spreads, entity structures, collateral, market data, and reports to assess inherent risks and prepare recommendations for Credit Administration through opportunity memos, loan presentations, administrative action memos, and annual reviews.
- Mentoring junior analysts in financial analysis, loan structure, appropriate covenant conditions, and identifying risks with tangible mitigating factors.
- Performing SBA eligibility reviews and special financial statement analyses, typically involving complex and interlocking relationships.
- Providing credit information and references for customers, loan officers, or other agencies as requested.
- Conducting pre-qualification assessments and analyses of financial condition and risk within the Bank’s credit culture and current economic and industry trends.
- Gathering and analyzing all necessary information to present financing requests to senior management or Loan Committee for approval; may include meeting with existing or potential customers, visiting loan sites, negotiating loan terms, and recommending acceptance to Credit Administration.
Requirements
- 6+ years of related experience.
- 4+ years of related SBA experience.
- Advanced knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management, and/or other commercial banking products and services.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules, regulations, industry standards, and practices.
- Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
Pay
Salary range for new hires is $114,910.00 – $141,946.00 for San Diego, CA. Salary is determined by specific job location. The role may also be eligible for annual bonus/incentives and restricted stock.
