About the role

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Radiology. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of radiology through innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and strategic leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a nationally recognized research program in radiology with a focus on innovation and clinical interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Collaborate with research divisions throughout the UNMC system including NCI designated Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
  • Manage translational research initiatives that combine basic science discoveries with clinical applications to improve patient care.
  • Secure extramural funding through grants and strategic partnerships.
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning, aligning research goals with the missions of the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
  • Mentor faculty, residents, fellows, and medical students in research methodologies, scholarly productivity, and career development.
  • Design, initiate, and lead investigator-driven imaging trials and develop competitive research proposals.
  • Provide support for clinical trials in radiology and interface between research coordinator and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Lead and further develop an established Tumor Metrics Lab in the Department of Radiology.

Requirements

  • Fellowship-trained radiologist
  • On-site dual-role faculty position with responsibilities equally divided between radiology research (0.5 FTE) and sub-specialized clinical practice (0.5 FTE)
  • Proven record of exceptional clinical expertise in a radiology sub-speciality
  • Expertise in theranostics, nuclear medicine, informatics, or artificial intelligence

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree
  • Board certification in Radiology
  • Current Nebraska Medical License

Skills

  • Strong research and grant writing skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior faculty and trainees
