Vicar - Selly Park - St Stephen & St Wulstan

The Church of England Birmingham · St Stephen, SC · 3 wk ago
OTHRFull-time

We are a lively, conservative evangelical, intergenerational church located in a mainly residential suburb of Birmingham, bordering the University of Birmingham campus. Our congregations are diverse in age and ethnicity, with a substantial number of families. We are outward-looking, with a desire to grow in our ability to reach the parish and university with the good news of Jesus. We have a variety of existing ministries and are open to new possibilities, including church planting. As a resolution church under the extended episcopal care of +Ebbsfleet, we are seeking a Vicar who meets the following criteria.

About the role

The Bishop of Birmingham looks for priests to serve as incumbents who have the capacity to grow the local church in spiritual depth, in numbers, in confident witness, and in serious engagement with their community. Central to this is the task of identifying, encouraging, and endorsing the ministry of others and entrusting them with real responsibility in the work of mission and outreach.

The priest appointed will be an office holder under Common Tenure, and the Ecclesiastical Offices (Terms of Service) Regulations will apply. It is important that the priest appointed plays a full part in the life of the deanery, particularly Chapter and Synod, and in the wider programmes of the Diocese. Opportunities for ecumenical collaboration should also be pursued, and good relationships sought with other faith communities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expository Bible-teacher, helping the congregation apply God’s Word to their lives.
  • Provide strategic leadership to develop the church’s vision for outreach and gospel growth.
  • Lead and develop the ministry team, working effectively with staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate a passion for evangelism and making disciples of Jesus.
  • Encourage and support the congregation, fostering growth in parish ministry.

Requirements

  • Must have been ordained in the Church of England or a church in communion with it.
  • Must have exercised at least three years of ordained ministry.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK (this vacancy does not qualify to sponsor a visa).

Qualifications

We welcome applications from all suitably qualified people, particularly those under-represented, including persons of Global Majority Heritage.

The Church of England Birmingham is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All post holders are expected to share this commitment. Appointments to roles undertaking regulated activity are subject to pre-appointment checks, including references and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.
