Veterinary Technician - Surgery

Pay: $20.00 - $40.50 per hour. This pay band is a starting point and depends on experience, licensure, and advancement through our leveling system. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

About the role

Join BluePearl Pet Hospital as a Surgery Veterinary Technician, splitting your time between our Cary and Raleigh hospitals. Work with some of the brightest veterinary professionals in the industry while advancing your skills in anesthesia and surgical care.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia-related protocols, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Perform intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
• Conduct physical exams, accurately measuring vital signs (heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort).
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormalities occur.
• Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
• Expand knowledge and skillset in advanced anesthetic techniques, including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
• Operate and troubleshoot all brands of intravenous fluid pumps.
• Perform medical math calculations.
• Manage the entire patient procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
• Handle appointments, obtain patient histories, maintain medical records, manage invoicing, and facilitate patient discharges.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.

Requirements

• Passion for anesthesia and improving skills in the veterinary field.
• Ability to work at both Cary and Raleigh hospitals.
• Current authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring future sponsorship (position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or transfer).
