Responsibilities

  • Support the practice’s team by providing high-level, proficient veterinary medical care and embodying the Chewy mission to deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
  • Implement outlined policies and procedures using integrated technology to deliver consistent and appropriate medical care within your skills.
  • Perform all listed technician skills (Veterinary Technician I and II) as well as team member training, inventory management, mentoring, and handling client complaints.
  • Provide patient care including blood transfusions, oxygen cage use, cardiac monitoring, dentistry, wound care, catheter placement, and anesthesia monitoring for unstable or high-risk patients.
  • Handle animal bodily fluids and tissues safely and professionally.
  • Demonstrate team support and care for others’ work experiences.
  • Follow the practice’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC).
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, keeping veterinarians updated in real time on patient status (in practice, at referral, and under home care).
  • Serve as a PIMS (Practice Information Management System) administrative super-user and assist others with technology use.
  • Maintain responsibility for pharmacy holdings and controlled substance logs.
  • Assist the practice manager with inventory needs and communication.
  • Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
  • Participate in self-development courses and required compliance training.
  • Perform related duties and assignments as advised by management.
  • Fulfill any other responsibilities deemed vital within the scope of the role.
  • May be required to work weekends and travel occasionally.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited veterinary technology program and current licensure is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary technician skills checklist for Veterinary Technician III.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Veterinary Technician in practice is preferred.
  • Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate compassion.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, self-starter environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
  • Frequently lift up to 50 to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
  • Occasionally lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
  • Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel as needed.
