Veterinary Technician II

Emergency and Critical Care department at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC), providing 24/7 specialized care for companion and large animals.

About the role

This Level II position provides care and assistance to patients under the supervision of Clinicians and House Officers. Responsibilities include performing technical skills, delivering nursing care to small animal ICU patients, and coordinating diagnostics, procedures, and treatments. You will also instruct and demonstrate veterinary care and technical skills to 4th-year veterinary students.

Successful candidates hired into a Veterinary Technician I/II/III position in the College of Veterinary Medicine's Small Animal Intensive Care Unit between 2/1/2025 and 6/30/2027 may be eligible to receive a recruitment incentive of $1,000. Payment terms and conditions will be provided in a payment agreement.

Responsibilities

• Proficiently perform technical skills and provide nursing care to small animal ICU patients.
• Coordinate and assist with patient diagnostics, procedures, and treatments.
• Triage and stabilize incoming emergency patients.
• Provide advanced nursing care and recognize changes in animal health.
• Instruct and demonstrate veterinary care and technical skills to 4th-year veterinary students.
• Collaborate with clinicians, residents, interns, and staff in a team-based environment.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, house officers, and staff members.

Requirements

• Registered, licensed, or certified as a veterinary technician.
• Associate’s degree in a veterinary technology program accredited by the AVMA or CVMA and three years of experience in a veterinary teaching hospital, specialty/referral practice, laboratory animal medicine, or research enterprise, or
• Bachelor’s degree in a veterinary technology program accredited by the AVMA or CVMA and two years of experience in a veterinary teaching hospital, specialty/referral practice, laboratory animal medicine, or research enterprise.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with restraining animals.
• Prior experience working in a veterinary setting.
• Experience with large or small animals.
