Position Duties
Affords assistance to the Staff Veterinarian during clinical operations. Assists in examining and observing the health conditions of animals housed in animal care centers. Performs tasks such as providing animal care, filling prescriptions, administering medications, and supporting the Veterinarian and Animal Care Supervisor.
- Supports the Staff Veterinarian and Animal Care Supervisor.
- Monitors animals for signs of illness and reports findings to the supervisor and/or Veterinarian.
- Schedules veterinary appointments for sick or injured animals and recheck appointments.
- Maintains medical records and shelter data.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years' experience working with a veterinarian.
- Familiarity with surgical procedures, medications, sterilization, and anesthesia.
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience in public contact work or as a kennel worker in an animal care facility.
- State Certified Veterinary Technician preferred.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
Requirements
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Become euthanasia certified and assist in performing euthanasia.
- Regular, dependable, and punctual attendance is essential.

Additional Information
Work performed in an animal shelter. 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday; flexibility may be required pending operational needs. Requires courage to work with animals that may bite, kick, or scratch. Will have contact with inmate trustees from the Brevard County Jail. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or manmade disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be expected to work.
