Position Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Nurse to support our small animal clinical trials activities for the internal medicine and medical oncology services.Responsibilities
- Data input into electronic database/Excel
- Scheduling potential and active trial cases (as appropriate for trial needs and clinician availability)
- Communicating with trial clients and veterinarians regarding potential enrollees or ongoing trial questions
- Scheduling diagnostic tests and facilitating data collection
- Communicating charges and associated accounts to the business office
- Coeordinating sample transport (within campus, external shipments)
- Drafting information regarding upcoming trials to be circulated to referring DVMs and the public
- Preparing reports
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school with coursework in Veterinary Technology; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in patient care, surgery, drug dosing and sterilization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; must be licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attain such certification within one year of the date of hire.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology desired.
- Licensed Veterinary Technician who is versatile, interested in learning new techniques in different disciplines, and displays strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Individuals should display initiative, be able to work independently, interact well with others, and work effectively as part of a team.
- As the successful candidate will work on a variety of projects, individuals should be flexible, able to prioritize tasks, be organized, be able to requisition supplies and equipment, and have excellent record-keeping with attention to detail.
- Clinical experience in standard anesthesia and surgical room protocols and equipment, multi-species animal nursing, biological sample collection techniques is desired.
- Prior research experience, including such skills as molecular biology techniques, experience in pre-clinical and/or clinical research projects; familiarity with USDA, Animal Welfare, GCP and GLP requirements, is appreciated, as is experience with common office and medical software.
