Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Veterinary Medical Director, where you will lead clinical excellence and foster a compassionate environment for both pets and their owners. This pivotal role combines veterinary leadership with hands-on medical expertise, ensuring the highest standards of animal care across our facility. The ideal candidate is dedicated, caring, and compassionate, with strong clinical judgment and communication skills, including a focus on client education and teamwork. A desire to maintain a diverse caseload while working closely with other veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to improve the lives of pets in our community is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of veterinary care including physical examination, diagnostics, treatment recommendations, prescribing of medications, and surgery.
  • Provide compassionate, quality wellness and sick care to patients using low stress handling techniques.
  • Perform quality spay/neuter, special and emergency surgeries.
  • Communicate with clients in a clear and compassionate way, discuss exam and test results to allow pet owners to make informed decisions about their pet's care.
  • Supervise veterinary staff, including veterinarians, technicians, and support personnel, fostering professional growth and teamwork, along with the support of the Director of Medical Operations.
  • Provide expert veterinary oversight for all clinical activities, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and facilitate seamless communication across the team.
  • Collaborate to develop and refine protocols to meet organizational goals and quality standards.
  • Take an active role in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating veterinary staff, including veterinary student interns.
  • Oversee veterinary personnel needs, such as doctor staffing and scheduling, using effective communication and problem-solving skills, with the support of the Director of Medical Operations and Lead Surgical Technician.
  • Address client concerns in conjunction with the appropriate management personnel.
  • Attend relevant conferences to maintain Continuing Education credits required to maintain an active veterinary license in the State of Delaware.
  • Join the organizational Leadership Team and participate in strategic planning for the organization at large.
  • Be a steward for the operational and financial goals of the organization.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor staff while maintaining high standards of animal care.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and educate pet owners on treatment plans.
  • VMD or DVM degree from an accredited institution and be eligible for licensure in Delaware.
  • A current license in good standing is required.
  • 5 years of veterinary experience.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate (VMD or DVM degree) from an accredited institution (Required).

Pay

$190,000.00 - $225,000.00 per year
