Veterinary Lab Technician
About the role
This position supports veterinarians, fellow technicians, and researchers in providing laboratory animal care and research support. Key responsibilities include daily monitoring of animal well-being, cleaning and maintaining clinical areas, assisting with procedures, providing surgical and anesthesia support, triaging cases, performing medical imaging, administering medications, and maintaining documentation.
Responsibilities
- Provide animal care to a colony of transgenic mouse strains, including animal weaning, maintenance of animal health and enrichment, and sample collection.
- Maintain the animal database, recording animal lineage, strain, age, and experimental designations.
- Assist in running animal experiments, including administering experimental agents, collecting samples, and performing microbiological techniques such as immunofluorescence, Western blot, and qPCR.
- Keep detailed, accurate, and timely records and log books.
- Organize and document results from animal experiments.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must be able to stand and/or sit for up to 8 hours per day. This position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare and adherence to all applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- No prior experience is required, but combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory animal care and handling.
- Ability to maintain databases and record keeping systems.
- Basic understanding of animal husbandry practices.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as immunofluorescence, Western blot, and qPCR.
