Veterinary Extern - General Practice
About the role
The Animal Medical Center of Greeneville is a full-service small animal hospital located an hour from the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. We offer advanced diagnostic tools including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, therapeutic laser, surgical laser, dental and dental radiography. Each day presents opportunities to enhance your surgical and medical skills, focusing on both soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, as well as a variety of medicine cases.
Responsibilities
- Gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing medical cases.
- Practice clinical skills alongside supervising Associate Veterinarians.
- Develop communication skills through interactions with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
- Observe and assist in daily operations, gaining insight into the practice's unique environment and its commitment to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Requirements
Students must be enrolled in a veterinary school and in the clinical portion of their education to qualify for the externship. They are also eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
Qualifications
Preference is given to students who are actively engaged in their clinical training and demonstrate a strong interest in veterinary medicine.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Pay
Travel/living expense stipends are available for veterinary students participating in externships.
Schedule
Most externship experiences at Animal Medical Center of Greeneville range from two to eight weeks, depending on the schedules of both the student and the hospital.
