About the role

As a Blood Bank Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform blood collection from donor pets.
  • Maintain blood bank operations in accordance with California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and Veterinary Medical Board (VMB) regulations.
  • Manage donations, including proper setup with appropriate instruments and providing donors with treats and meals after their donations.
  • Provide outstanding client communication and education, +/- participate in blood donor recruitment events. Maintain positive relations with blood donor clients.
  • Maintain general cleanliness of blood bank area, including runs and processing equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: intravenous catheter placement, drug dose calculation, venipuncture, blood pressure reading, acquiring radiographs and hourly treatments.
  • Ensure that blood products are being processed in an aseptic manner, while maintaining the highest level of accuracy in all calculations and labeling.
  • Prepare products for shipping and delivery when needed, keeping detailed documentation.
  • Work directly with criticalists' to coordinate exams, new donor enrollment screenings and manage blood product availability.
  • Perform in-house lab diagnostics pertaining to blood transfusions and blood donor enrollment.
  • Blood donor advocacy to ensure safe blood donation practices.
  • Ensure tender, loving care and positive reinforcement during all donor interactions.
  • Maintain blood product inventory and place orders from CDFA regulated blood banks.
  • Assist in associated ECC departments, including Emergency Room and Intermediate Care Ward.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician/Assistant in a progressive animal hospital setting required.

Currently licensed as RVT in the state of California.

Proficiency in venipuncture, processing basic laboratory specimens and medical terminology required.

Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community.

Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected.

Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail in all related blood bank duties.

Qualifications
