About the role
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic individual passionate about small animals. The successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and various treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the VTH.
- Actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students.
- Work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
Requirements
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Veterinary Assistant: Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.
- Veterinary Technician I: Registered Veterinary Technician or completed Associate degree in Veterinary Technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain I licensure within 120 days of hire.
- Veterinary Technician II: Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
- Veterinary Technician III: Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
- Senior Veterinary Technician: Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
- Veterinary Technician Specialist I: Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
- Veterinary Technician Specialist II: Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Qualifications
- Experience with procedures such as administering vaccines/medications, placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters, suturing skin incisions/applying casts, EKG/Ultrasound/other diagnostic imaging/monitoring, inducing anesthesia by inhalation or intravenous Injection, etc.
- Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential.
- Knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc.
- Physical capability to lift animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge
- Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential.

Pay
$16.00 - $35.00 hourly
Schedule
Shift work may include evenings, overnights, weekends
