About the role
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small animals. The successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
- Actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students.
- Work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
Requirements
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Veterinary Assistant: Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.
- Veterinary Technician I: Registered Veterinary Technician or completed Associate degree in Veterinary Technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain I licensure within 120 days of hire.
- Veterinary Technician II: Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
- Veterinary Technician III: Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
- Senior Veterinary Technician: Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
- Veterinary Technician Specialist I: Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
- Veterinary Technician Specialist II: Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Qualifications
- Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.
- Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential.
- Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge
