Veterinary Assistant / Surgical liaison

About the Role

VCA Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center is seeking a Surgical Liaison/Assistant to join our team. As the contact person and team driver, you will bridge communication between doctors and clients, ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner and maintaining a direct line of communication between the owner and the doctor.

The Surgical Liaison/Assistant keeps owners informed at every step, communicates with the front desk, technicians, and primary veterinarian, provides progress reports, fills prescriptions, answers phone calls for the doctor if unavailable, and relays information to pet owners calling for advice or about their hospitalized pets. They may also return phone calls as instructed by the clinician after gathering appropriate information.

This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills, a surgical background, and a desire to advance their career in the veterinary field. You will drive the surgical service while maintaining the high standards of our hospital.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact between doctors and pet owners, ensuring clear and timely communication.
• Maintain a direct line of communication with owners throughout their pet’s treatment.
• Provide progress reports to pet owners during every step of the process.
• Coordinate with the front desk, technicians, and primary veterinarian as needed.
• Fill prescriptions and answer phone calls on behalf of the doctor when unavailable.
• Relay information to pet owners calling for advice or updates on hospitalized pets.
• Return phone calls as instructed by the clinician after gathering necessary information.
• Uphold the high standards of the surgical service and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

• Strong communication skills and a surgical background.
• Ability to drive the surgical service and maintain high standards.
• Experience as an Assistant or Veterinary Technician is a plus, but all candidates with relevant skills are encouraged to apply.
