AESC is a 24/7 emergency and specialty referral center in Parker, CO, offering advanced care in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesiology.

About the role

The Surgery Assistant supports surgeons and technicians by preparing the surgery service, restraining animals, assisting with anesthetized patients, and preparing surgical packs. They coordinate equipment and procedure timelines with DVMs and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient induction, including intubation and monitoring.
  • Clean, organize, and maintain the pack-and-prep area, including assembling and wrapping surgical packs.
  • Set up and break down operating rooms.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
  • Prep and maintain surgical equipment, including sterilizers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of operating rooms, flipping and cleaning between surgeries.
  • Circulate in procedures, opening instruments and packs with sterile technique.
  • Perform animal restraint for blood draws, catheter placement, and pre-medicating.
  • Assist as a surgical scrub nurse in soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.
  • Stock pack-and-prep, treatment, and operating rooms appropriately.
  • Run an appointment column, including taking medical history, interpreting records, and obtaining vitals.
  • Perform diagnostic radiographs alongside a technician.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the hospital and department.
  • Other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • At least one year of animal experience (required).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading); multilingual skills a plus.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a veterinary assistant with responsibilities in animal restraint and radiography (preferred).
  • Experience in an emergency or specialty setting (preferred).
  • Knowledge of EasyVet or similar medical record systems (preferred).

Pay

$18 - $22/hr., based on experience.

Schedule

Full-time: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
