About the role

Highway Veterinary Hospital in Bowie, Maryland, is seeking a compassionate and motivated Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. This role is part of a thriving three-doctor hospital and offers a unique opportunity for work-life balance.

Responsibilities

• Collecting patient histories
• Running appointments alongside veterinarians
• Discussing vaccines and preventive care with pet owners
• Presenting treatment plans for sick patients
• Client education and communication
• Animal restraint and handling
• Aiding in diagnostics and treatments
• Supporting the medical team throughout the day

Requirements

• Proficiency with canine and feline venipuncture
• PREFERRED: Experience placing IV catheters
• PREFERRED: Experience administering vaccines
• PREFERRED: Knowledge of vaccine protocols and preventive care
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills, including fractious patients
• Confidence discussing medical recommendations with clients
• Positive attitude and team-first mentality

Desired Skills & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure
• Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset
