Veterinary Assistant
About the role
Hillside Veterinary Associates is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients. The ideal candidate will enjoy variety in their day and utilize and develop a well-rounded skillset across patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures.
Responsibilities
- Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
- Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry
- Provide safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
- Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
- Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
- Build positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces
Requirements
- 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred
- Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care
- Experience assisting with exams, treatments, surgery setup, radiology, and outpatient procedures
- Proficiency in phlebotomy, SQ injections, laboratory sample collection, and inpatient nursing care
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Career-focused communication with clients and team members, with a collaborative and dependable work ethic
- Physical ability to lift, bend, stand for extended periods, and safely restrain patients
- Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and client service
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications and skill set:
- 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred

Pay
Compensation: $13-18 per hour, for each hour worked
Schedule
This is a flexible, full-time position, with a 5/8 or 4/10 schedule and availability needed Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday with rotating weekends and holidays.
