Veterinary Assistant

About the role

Pine Woods Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! We are a Fear Free clinic and applicants who have or would like to pursue their Fear Free certification are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities

- Ensure efficient exam room workflow, running rooms independently and anticipating the needs of the veterinary team throughout the day - Provide safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during exams, treatments, and procedures - Support client education by clearly explaining treatment plans, discharge instructions, and home care recommendations with empathy and confidence - Collaborate with the veterinary team to support outpatient care and procedures, ensuring the highest standard of patient care - Assist the surgery team as needed with patient prep, setup, and recovery - Collect laboratory samples and support in-house diagnostics - Maintain accurate medical records and keep exam rooms clean, organized, and fully prepared between appointments

Requirements

- 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, or related clinical experience required - Fear Free certification preferred; willingness to pursue certification required - Proficiency in the following skills: - Client communication and education - Safe, gentle patient handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments - Laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostics - Exam room management and outpatient workflow support - Accurate medical record keeping and treatment documentation - Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment - Surgical assistance support as needed

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent - Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Skills

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Detail-oriented and organized

Benefits

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule, Monday-Friday, and usually one Saturday shift per month.
