Veterinary Assistant

About the role

VCA Old Marple Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join their well-established, multi-doctor, 24-hour emergency/general practice in Springfield, Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will assist in creating and maintaining a positive, low-stress atmosphere for both patients and clients.

Responsibilities

• Obtain a history on a sick/well patient
• Restraining a cat/dog
• Feeling comfortable talking to clients/making phone calls
• Toe nail trims (can train)
• Ear cleanings (can train)
• Draw up injections and be able to administer them (can train)
• Blood draws (can train)
• Client education and care
• Laboratory sample collection and processing
• Medication preparation and administration
• Safe and effective patient handling and restraint
• Medical recordkeeping

Requirements

Some veterinary medical knowledge/background is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for skills such as toe nail trims, ear cleanings, injections, blood draws, and medication administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in a veterinary setting is preferred but not required
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Basic veterinary medical knowledge
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly

Pay

The pay range for this position is $15.23-$23.14 per hour.

Schedule

Hours may vary based on department needs, but typically include a mix of day, evening, and weekend shifts.
