Veterinary Assistant

About the role

At Chewy, we're changing the veterinary care experience by building a culture where veterinary teams can thrive. We're launching new veterinary practices in early 2024 and are seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our Healthcare Practice Team.

Responsibilities

• Serve to support the practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, proficient veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture.
• Implement the outlined policies and procedures, using integrated technology, and deliver consistent and appropriate medical care within the given abilities.
• Perform veterinary assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including assisting with medical equipment operations and handling animal bodily fluids and tissues.
• Demonstrate team support and care for others' work experiences.
• Understand and follow the practice’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC).
• Review invoices with clients and handle client payments.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with other Team Members, keeping veterinarians informed in real time on patient updates.
• Be proficient using the PIMS and assist others on the team in their use of the technology.
• Assist with inventory needs and keep controlled substance logs.
• Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
• Participate in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.
• May be required to work weekends and travel.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Veterinary Assistant.
• 0 - 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
• Experience in veterinary medicine.
• Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
• Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
• Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Job Requirements

• Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
• Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
• Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.

Pay

The hourly range for this role is $17.54 - $26.44. The specific hourly range offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k.
