About the role
This is not your typical Veterinary Assistant position. At Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic, we are searching for a Veterinary Assistant who serves as a true extension of the doctor-client relationship. Someone who loves connecting with people just as much as they love caring for pets. Our ideal candidate is warm, personable, organized, and genuinely enjoys spending time with clients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare exam rooms and support doctors during appointments
- Obtain patient histories and document medical information accurately
- Collect patient vitals and assist with patient handling
- Serve as a liaison between doctors and clients
- Educate clients on medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and discharge instructions
- Cover follow-up calls after appointments and procedures
- Build strong relationships with clients and their pets
- Help ensure every client feels welcomed, informed, and supported
- Aid in patient treatments and routine nursing care as needed
- Support hospital workflow and patient flow throughout the day
- Work collaboratively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and client service representatives
Qualifications
- Previous Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Client Communication Specialist/Receptionist experience preferred
- Strong client communication skills required
- Previous experience working in a veterinary hospital setting is required
- Experience obtaining patient histories and vitals preferred
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced general practice environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Positive, team-oriented attitude
- Fear Free experience is a plus
- Vetspire experience is a plus but not required
