About the role
The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control seeks a Veterinarian to join our dynamic team. This role involves providing essential medical services, enforcing public health laws, and managing animal shelters and clinics.
Responsibilities
- Collects data and laboratory samples for disease investigations and forwards to diagnostic laboratories.
- Consults with department, private veterinarians, and animal owners on disease problems.
- Prepares required records and reports.
- Operates a spay/neuter clinic to help control the animal population.
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats animals within the animal care center/shelter.
- Supervises clinic staff and care center/shelter staff regarding the care of sick animals.
- Advises the public and department employees on matters within the field of veterinary medicine.
- Conducts vaccination clinics and provides medical consultations during special events.
Requirements
- A valid California State License to practice veterinary medicine.
- A valid California Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working in an animal shelter.
- Physical Class 3 - Moderate: Standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, lifting up to 25 pounds, and frequently lifting 10-25 pounds.
Special Information
- Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

- License requirements: Valid California State License to practice veterinary medicine and a valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.
What to Expect Next
- Applications will be processed on an "as received" basis and placed on an eligible register.
- The names of candidates who qualify will be added to the eligible register for a period of twelve months from the date of promulgation.
- No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve months.
