Position Summary
Aid in humane veterinary and husbandry services for various animals within Animal Services; apply knowledge of humane animal care, handling, behavior, husbandry and veterinary hospital practices; work towards increased adoption rates; ensure quality of work and adherence to policies and procedures; perform euthanasia procedures.
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing. It is an unclassified at-will position.
About the Role
Assist Veterinarian in medical examinations, surgeries, emergency care, and postmortem examinations; prepare instruments and specimens; prepare animals for surgery; coordinate activities with other shelter personnel; perform laboratory tests; maintain animal records; maintain supplies and equipment; monitor animal health and well-being; provide emergency care; perform euthanasia procedures; interact with the public; educate staff, volunteers, and the public; attend professional meetings.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of Veterinary Assistant or animal handling work experience
- Valid New Mexico Driver's License
- City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire
- Valid Veterinary Assistant Certificate preferred
- Euthanasia technician license issued by the State of New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department within six (6) months from date of hire
