Responsibilities

As a CNC Vertical Boring Mill (VBM) Machinist, you will be responsible for the precise manufacturing of components using CNC VBM machinery, ensuring adherence to safe and efficient production processes. You will operate and monitor the VBM equipment, ensuring that all products are produced to the highest quality standards and within specified timelines. Your role will involve a commitment to continuous improvement initiatives, including Six Sigma, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing principles.

Physical Requirements

Working with minimal supervision, you will manage your own workflow, including setting up machines, selecting appropriate tools, and making necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance.

How You’ll Make an Impact

- Set up and operate large Vertical Boring Mills (VBMs), including CNC machines with various control systems - Perform machining operations using appropriate tables, fixtures, and tooling on a wide range of components - Read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T; verify dimensions with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators) - Conduct in-process inspections and document measurements to ensure required tolerances and surface finishes are met - Safely handle large components using overhead cranes and forklifts in accordance with company standards - Adhere to OSHA safety requirements (machine guarding, PPE) and complete all production and quality documentation accurately

Qualifications

- HS Diploma or GED required - A minimum of 3 years of experience operating boring CNC machines with Siemens and/or FANUC controls is required. - Ability to obtain and maintain Fork Truck and Critical Lift (B+) crane licenses, and successfully complete the ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate (Silver level or higher) with company-supported scheduling - Physical capability to remain at a machine console, move for tooling setup and part inspection, and lift up to 50 lbs. for short durations, with or without reasonable accommodation - Ability to follow written, oral, and graphic instructions, with proven skill in using precision gauges and setting tooling to high accuracy, preferably on large-diameter components
