About the role
The Mennel Milling Company seeks an individual to operate and maintain all areas of production in the flour mill under the direction of the Head Miller/Shift Miller. This position works first shift and supports Mennel's commitment to food safety and reliability.
Primary Work Shift
This position works first shift and may require weekend and holiday coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations, including GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, and sanitation guidelines.
- Coordinate with the Head Miller/Shift Miller to process flour product transfers according to quality department and customer specifications.
- Perform quality analysis and food safety checks for flour transfers.
- Assist the Head Miller/Shift Miller with mill changes and daily operations.
- Assist with mill equipment repairs and routine maintenance, as needed/required.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the master sanitation schedule.
- Attend all required training sessions.
- Perform sampling and testing of wheat and water, and make appropriate adjustments to wheat cleaning and tempering equipment to meet specifications and standards.
- Absorb the responsibilities of the Head Miller/Shift Miller in their absence.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of flour milling, food production, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to pass a Respirator Fit Test and perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job while wearing a respirator.
- Effective prioritization and organization skills, with the ability to follow through on assignments efficiently and of high quality.
- Understanding of material flow within processes and sequences of operations.
- Open communication with both internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate Microsoft Office software, internet, and other computer software to complete essential duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- High aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
Language Skills
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, memos, and procedures.
- Write, complete checklists, and other basic documentation and correspondence.
- Present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
- Use solid judgment when making decisions.
- Quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.
Physical Demands
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands to perform maintenance tasks, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Exposure to moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions.
- Employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles.
- Noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection.
- Exposure to common wheat allergens.
