Job Responsibilities

- An Automotive Technician troubleshoots and diagnoses more complex vehicle malfunctions and may provide assistance to lower-level employees.
- A Lead Automotive Technician serves as a leader for lower-level technicians and mechanics in a vehicle maintenance facility.
- A Lead Automotive Technician performs the most complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.
- A Garage Assistant assists with and performs a variety of routine preventive and corrective services in the maintenance of USPS motor vehicles.
- An Automotive Mechanic troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs routine repairs and scheduled maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.
- The difference between an Automotive Mechanic and an Automotive Technician is that Automotive Mechanics diagnose, repair, and perform routine maintenance for vehicles of all kinds. They typically focus on performing routine preventative maintenance, hands-on, physical aspects of repairs, like replacing or repairing faulty components, including driveline, brakes, steering, suspension, and more. Automotive Mechanics often have a comprehensive understanding of the basic systems in modern vehicles.
