Job Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance to motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling and electrical systems on equipment and automotive vehicles.
  • Examples include engine overhaul, transmission repairs and overhaul, and clutch replacement to both gas and diesel trucks.
  • Diagnose and make repairs to electrical systems and hydraulic systems to ensure proper and safe operations of dump trucks, pick-up trucks, cars and equipment.
  • Performs electrical and acetylene welding to make repairs or modify parts on vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs service calls at field work sites as needed.

Requirements

  • One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands for the essential functions involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material grasping.
  • This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time.
  • Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
