Who we are looking for

We are seeking an enthusiastic Inspector who has a knack for cars and wants to join a growing company. Inspectors are the face of ACV, knowledgeable about vehicles, energetic, meticulous, and dedicated to delivering trust, transparency, credibility, and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Partner with a Territory Manager and a team of Inspectors to conduct inspections of vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off‑lease, detecting damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems.
• Prepare and submit reports of vehicle condition, repair/replacement cost estimates, and related documentation.
• Help the sales team up‑sell or cross‑sell services and products.
• Interface regularly with dealers to develop and ensure client satisfaction and build strong relationships.
• Travel to and from dealerships and homes to inspect, write condition reports, and list vehicles for sale on the auction platform.
• Take multiple overall and damage photos, match them to a vehicle, and upload them to the image server using the company‑issued smartphone.
• List inspected wholesale vehicles on the ACV Auctions platform for bidding and purchasing.
• Sign up independent dealerships as buyers to utilize the ACV Auctions digital platform.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 1 year of experience in the automobile field (body, paint, and mechanical repair knowledge) with a customer‑service background.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to work outside in the elements for extended periods.
• Problem‑solving aptitude with resourceful and innovative approaches.
• Proven success working independently with minimal supervision while thriving in a team environment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand customer needs and expectations.
• Valid driver’s license and use of a validly registered and insured motor vehicle.
• Knowledge of system capabilities, relevant software packages, and web‑based applications.
• Ability to perform manual labor such as standing for extended periods, lifting 25 lb or more, bending, and squatting.
• Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmissions.
• Vision abilities required to properly identify small defects around and underneath vehicles.

Compensation

The hourly compensation range is listed in the “Job Details” section of the posting. This position is eligible for additional compensation under ACV’s incentive compensation plan; the average monthly incentive earned by VCI’s in this territory in 2025 was $354. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, location, business needs, market demands, performance, and other factors permitted by law. No immigration or work‑visa sponsorship is provided for this position.
