Vegetable Entomology Student Assistant
About the role
The vegetable entomology research laboratory conducts investigations into how pest insects affect vegetable productivity in Georgia and how to best control these pests. Current tasks include maintaining insect (e.g., whitefly and diamondback moth) colonies, collecting and processing samples and entering data. Specific tasks will include rapidly identifying and counting small insects under stereo microscope magnification, maintaining plant food for insect colonies, planting seeds/seedlings for colonies and/or research tests, scouting and other duties related to entomological field research.
Responsibilities
- Rapidly identify and count small insects under stereo microscope magnification
- Assist with insect colonies
- Plant seeds/seedlings and other duties related to entomological research
- Scout for insects in the fields
Requirements
Standing and using microscope for extended periods of time. Lifting of soil tubs and standard potting trays with full pots. Driving.
