About the role
We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to join the Project & Product Delivery portfolio in Mechanicsville, Virginia. This is a 12-month hybrid position, requiring onsite work up to 3 days per week. The role involves leading and managing projects using Agile, SAFe, Waterfall, and Kanban methodologies while collaborating with senior leadership, business stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Drive consistent project delivery through the entire project lifecycle, including project plans, release plans, resource allocation, and management of project risks, scope, schedule, and delivery of value.
- Coordinate Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Retrospectives, Sprint Demos, Story Refinement, and Release Planning.
- Track and communicate project progress from a schedule, cost, and risk perspective to the project team, stakeholders, and management.
- Establish an environment where teams can be effective and remove obstacles.
- Protect the team from outside interruptions and distractions.
- Ensure a good relationship between the team and product owner as well as others outside the team.
- Track and report team velocity and other project metrics.
- Promote continuous improvement and help teams increase productivity.
- Assist Product Owners and teams with Product backlog management.
- Ensure teams practice core Agile, Waterfall, and principles and processes.
- Adhere to defined project management practices.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Active Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Documented risk management experience (5+ years).
- Completion of a Category 1 or 2 Commonwealth project of $5M or more, or completion of a non-Commonwealth project with a value greater than $10M as the Project Manager of record (5+ years).
- Ability to work onsite up to 3 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Commonwealth PM Certification.
- Commonwealth risk management experience.
- Completion of a Commonwealth Category 1 or 2 project of $5M or more.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle models and expert knowledge of Agile project management principles and practices.
- Experience with the SAFe framework.
- Well-versed in Scrum and Kanban Agile methodologies.
