About the Role
The VDC Manager I works directly with project teams to assist in project delivery throughout design and construction using Building Information Modeling (BIM) services. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and closing out BIM deliverables at the project-specific level, handling projects ranging from small to medium size and complexity (typically less than $60M). The role requires integrating technology with traditional construction methods and demonstrating leadership to rally teams around common goals.
Responsibilities
- Understand 2D plans and 3D models received from design partners.
- Model missing 3D components as needed.
- Manage the overall BIM coordination process for medium-sized projects throughout preconstruction and construction.
- Communicate BIM services clearly and confidently to project teams, design teams, and subcontractors.
- Analyze and adjust models provided by architects and design engineers for internal use in preconstruction and construction.
- Participate in VDC Committee meetings and maintain clear communication with supervisors.
- Support VDC department initiatives to develop and implement new technology and workflows.
- Utilize models to support preconstruction, including performing and documenting quantity take-off reports.
- Generate 3D/4D site logistics plans and 4D visualizations to communicate schedules and sequences.
- Create and render virtual mockups and presentation materials/visual aids.
- Perform design model constructability reviews.
- Manage coordination of work with subcontractors, including identifying scope gaps for overhead MEP trades.
- Run clash detection, document clashes, and track them throughout construction.
- Maintain and assist project teams with facilities management requirements.
- Work with field teams to increase adoption of 3D models in the field.
- Conduct regular QA/QC field walks to ensure installations match coordinated models.
- Document Plus/Delta to improve group processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction.
- 1–4 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 2 years in direct BIM/VDC responsibilities.
- Experience with Assemble Systems, BIM360, Lumion, Dynamo, Synchro, 3DS Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Inventor is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate, listen, and communicate clearly with teams.
- Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet work goals.
- Proactively take on additional responsibilities as needed.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new software regularly.
- Willingness to travel and/or relocate if required.
