VCBH Research Lab Assistant

Vermont Center on Behavior and Health (VCBH, https://www.med.uvm.edu/behaviorandhealth/home) is an interdisciplinary, internationally-recognized research center committed to investigating relationships between personal behavior patterns (i.e., lifestyle) and risk for chronic disease and premature death. VCBH’s work has historically focused on health disparities for the most vulnerable populations, particularly among the socioeconomically disadvantaged, where these risk factors are overrepresented.

Responsibilities

• Conduct day-to-day tasks associated with running research investigating nicotine and tobacco use and interventions to reduce use.
• Maintain study databases.
• Participate in participant recruitment.
• Meet with participants, verify participant consents, administer questionnaires, and conduct interviews.
• Blind study tobacco products.
• Manage study equipment and supplies.
• Distribute study tobacco products.
• Coordinate and conduct study procedures.
• Oversee the distribution of participant compensation and purchase of equipment and supplies.
• Assist the Principal Investigator as needed with research-related activities and with IRB-approved protocols.
• Prepare progress reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
• Maintain files and records, using discretion regarding sensitive information, and maintain confidentiality within the framework of University guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is required, preferably in a related field such as psychology, social work, or medical areas.
• One to three years’ related experience is preferred.
• Experience with the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Experience or training in data management is ideal.

Qualifications

• Attention to detail and an interest in behavioral health research.
• Experience in research is desirable; specific experience with study management is a strength.
• Experience working with participants in a research setting is a strength.

Pay

$24.00 - $28.00/hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

• Full-time (1.00 FTE, 37.5 hours per week).
• 12-month term position.
• Occasional evening and/or weekend work required.
• Hybrid schedule available, with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy.
