VAWA STCJ Specialist/Educator

Position Summary

This position develops, coordinates, and implements outreach, education, and prevention programs focused on reducing and responding to domestic violence crimes covered under the Violence Against Women Act ("VAWA"). It increases public awareness of VAWA services, promotes survivor-centered resources, and strengthens partnerships among community agencies and service providers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Aid in the development and facilitation of presentations, workshops, and training sessions on topics related to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, healthy relationships and other crimes covered under VAWA.
• Facilitate assigned prevention program meetings, support meetings and activities.
• Provide education and information to the various Tohono O'odham Communities.
• Increase awareness of prevention techniques by assisting in the development and implementation of prevention strategies and public education initiatives aligned with VAWA goals.
• Maintain accurate records of outreach and training activities for reporting and compliance purposes.
• Contribute to the development of educational materials, social media content and other outreach tools.
• Identify and provide appropriate information and referrals to survivors of domestic violence crimes in a trauma informed and culturally competent manner.
• Work collaboratively with law enforcement, prosecutors, courts and victim service providers to enhance coordinated community responses.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams and committees focused on improving systems responses to domestic violence crimes.
• Assist with presentations, workshops, in-services and health fairs.
• Develop flyers, brochures and other informational materials.
• Transport and escort clients to clinics, meetings or other activities as necessary.
• Provide direct client services to VAWA victims/survivors, including crisis intervention, court accompaniment, case management and advocacy.
• Maintain accurate contacts and logs of service delivery for database development.

• Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
• Knowledge of trauma informed methods.
• Knowledge of the economic, educational, health and social issues of Native Americans.
• Knowledge of appropriate resources and referral agencies.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
• Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
• Skill in interviewing and communicating to illicit information and gain cooperation from clients.
• Skill in coordinating and planning programs and other educational and outreach activities.
• Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
• Ability to handle confidential information with proper discretion.
• Ability to present educational programs in front of large and small groups and create educational materials.
• Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
• Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
• Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to travel long distances throughout the Tohono O'odham Nation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates degree in social work, public health, criminal justice, psychology, education or a closely related field and three years' work experience in outreach, prevention, education or advocacy related to domestic violence or related social issues, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements

• Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
• Must possess certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid.
• If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
