About the role

The Vascular Technologist (sonographer) at Methodist Hospital Texsan performs diagnostic procedures including arterial/venous Dopplers and vascular imaging as directed by physician order. The sonographer utilizes and maintains a background in anatomy, physiology, physics, and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. He/she maintains department supplies and equipment and participates in quality control initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, evaluate, oversee instruction and assignment of the work of the employees within the department.
  • Evaluate and ensure proper working condition of all Ultrasound department equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and Biomed for repairs, scheduled maintenance, and assists the Manager/Director in selecting new equipment.
  • Establish and maintain Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) protocols required by IAC.
  • Maintain skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography.
  • Acquire signed physician orders with appropriate indicators for all exams.
  • Respond to STAT calls with good judgment and prioritize STAT orders.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures applicable to the job, recognize and address potential crises, and institute preventive measures.
  • Transport patients between the lab and other units as directed.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the work area, practice sterile techniques, and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Enter proper patient charges into Meditech and maintain all patient reports.
  • Support the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrate excellent customer service at all times.
  • Understand and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; report unsafe conditions to supervisors; and check with supervisors before performing any job functions.
  • Adhere to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrate ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues, and the community.
  • Report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules, regulations, or the Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • One of the following: Successful completion of training program in Ultrasonography, Radiologic Technology, or Vascular Technology.
  • One of the following: Associates of Science or higher degree.
  • Two (2) years vascular technologist experience in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic.
  • Must have and maintain American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in either RVT – Registered Vascular Technologist or RVS – Registered Vascular Specialist.

Skills

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics, and instrumentation; ability to perform ultrasound procedures; strong communication and organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks; and proficiency in medical sonography techniques and equipment.
