Performs advanced Vascular Ultrasound procedures to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities
- Performs advanced non-invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.
- Performs proper billing of procedures and prioritizes patient scheduling.
- Coordinates and prioritizes patient scheduling to ensure procedure completion in a timely fashion.
- Obtains information for specific procedures, answers patient questions, and maintains courtesy with patients and families.
- Performs all non-invasive imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.
- Notifies appropriate medical staff of significant abnormal findings.
- Documents procedures in the patient chart to inform physicians.
- Calculates and measures vascular structures to aid physician interpretation and diagnosis.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, procedure rooms, and work areas.
- Completes accurate documentation through EPIC for proper billing.
- Participates in education and in-service opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge.
- Provides preliminary reports on studies in a timely manner and reviews them with physicians.
- Follows and implements Vascular protocols and policies.
- Participates in the training of vascular ultrasound techniques and procedures.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Imaging Program.
- Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through ARDMS or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through CCI within 2 years of hire.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through ARDMS or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through CCI.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Hearing (aid permitted) – must function without lip reading.
- Visual acuity (corrected) – keen for both distant and near objects/individuals (e.g., ability to read small print).
Working Environment
The work environment involves typical clinical settings where the employee may encounter standard medical equipment and patient care areas.

Clinical Advancement Program
The Vascular Sonographer Clinical Ladder is a system-wide program to enhance professional development, reward quality performance, and improve job satisfaction.
- Level 1: No experience required. All Vascular Sonographers with less than 12 months of experience enter at this level.
- Level 2: Two years of sonographer experience. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.
- Level 3: Four years of sonographer experience. One continuing education pathway. Compliant in 4 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets.
- Level 4: Five years of sonographer experience. One continuing education pathway. Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 4 additional skill sets.
