Vascular Access Specialist RT - Days - Four Peaks

Located at Southern Ave & Crismon Rd, Mesa. Up to $15,000 sign-on bonus available. Shifts: 6:00pm–6:30am. Lines experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently provides and maintains arterial lines (A-line), deep venous (IV), midline catheters, peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), and/or central venous catheters (CVC), and/or acute hemodialysis catheter access.
• Conducts patient assessments, obtains consults for procedures, gathers correct blood values and patient information, and provides recommendations regarding the correct invasive catheter for the therapy required.
• Assists with departmental activities, serves as a specialist in quality improvement, and helps develop best-practice guidelines.
• Achieves superior performance in hemodynamic monitoring, line maintenance, and correct use and access of invasive lines.
• Performs all Respiratory Care Practitioner duties and may supervise others if required.
• Inserts and maintains arterial lines, midlines, PICC lines, and other vascular access devices according to department policy, including dressing changes, transducer changes, line reviews, flushing of ports, and de-clotting.
• Uses ultrasound technology to ensure accurate insertion of arterial lines and PICC lines.
• Reviews chest X-rays or uses X-ray-free technology (ECG tip placement) to verify accurate central line tip placement.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout insertion, following IHI bundle compliance.
• Provides accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Reviews labs, patient history, and physician orders to determine appropriate line usage and identify potential issues.
• Collaborates with physicians to determine long-term access needs and obtains patient authorization for procedures.
• Inserts peripheral venous and/or arterial catheters as indicated within department policy.
• Performs or assists with intubations when necessary and maintains competency through observation and documentation.
• Dispenses pharmacological solutions as prescribed by a physician and possesses knowledge of indications, contraindications, and complications of aerosolized medications.
• Responds to adverse reactions or inappropriate orders according to policy.
• Utilizes assessment skills to implement protocols or initiate physician consultation.
• Demonstrates competency in Medselect or PXYIs through monitoring and observation.
• Assists RNs in bedside procedures as required and transcribes physician’s verbal orders appropriately.
• Performs bag-and-mask ventilation, maintains airways, and assists with life-threatening events.
• Attends all resuscitations and traumas as assigned.
• Performs basic pulmonary function testing, including vital capacity, forced inspiratory/expiratory flows, flow-volume loops, and peak flow maneuvers.
• Performs resting and exercise oximetry testing; some therapists perform complete pulmonary function studies, including diffusion, lung volumes, body box procedures, and pulmonary stress procedures.
• Collects soiled equipment, transports it to the CV Respiratory Therapy department, and cleans, disinfects, sterilizes, and packages respiratory care equipment as needed.
• Performs minor troubleshooting of equipment and recognizes when repairs or preventative maintenance are needed.
• Provides CV respiratory therapy services as prescribed, assists in IAPB insertion, invasive and non-invasive cardiac outputs, and maintains ISTAT and/or blood gas equipment.
• Acts as a resource to therapists and other healthcare practitioners regarding patient status, equipment, and operational issues.
• Provides excellent customer service by demonstrating living performance standard behaviors.
• Remains current on new products, equipment, and technical practices and shares updates with specialists, supervisors, and leadership.
• Provides training, orientation, and patient education to staff, patients, and families in accordance with policy.
• Assists in the development of departmental policy and procedures based on best-practice standards.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)-approved Respiratory Care program.
• Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
• 2 years of Respiratory Care experience required; 5 years of experience with arterial line insertion, IV insertion, PICC and/or central line insertion, invasive maintenance, and electronic medical record data entry preferred.

Qualifications

• Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license – required upon hire.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – required upon hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification – required upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required upon hire.
• Arizona Respiratory License – required upon hire.
• Credential as NBRC Specialist or Vascular Access Specialist certification preferred.
