Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of adults requiring vascular access device (VAD) placement.
  • Performs VAD insertion and maintenance using ultrasound and modified Seldinger Technique (MST) for placement.
  • Communicates with physicians, co-workers and/or nursing director, as appropriate about the patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure efficient patient quality care is provided.
  • Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services.
  • Utilizes high degree of computer skills with data input and reporting mechanisms.
  • Documentation, including data collection for quality measures of routine audits.
  • Maintains and reorders supplies as needed daily.
  • Captures scheduling and prioritizes all requests.
  • Patient and family/significant other education; staff education and in-services.
  • Follows up patient VAD status, dressing changes and troubleshooting problems.
  • Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.
  • Qualifications

    • Current and valid RI State RN License.
    • Current BLS and ACLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
    • Infusion Nurse Certification preferred.
    • Successful completion of Ultrasound guided PICC placement using Modified Seldinger Technique program.
    • Minimum of three years’ nursing experience, with high level of competency in peripheral catheter placement.
    • PICC and other Vascular Access Device care required.
