Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of adults requiring vascular access device (VAD) placement.
- Performs VAD insertion and maintenance using ultrasound and modified Seldinger Technique (MST) for placement.
- Communicates with physicians, co-workers and/or nursing director, as appropriate about the patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure efficient patient quality care is provided.
- Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
- Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services.
- Utilizes high degree of computer skills with data input and reporting mechanisms.
- Documentation, including data collection for quality measures of routine audits.
- Maintains and reorders supplies as needed daily.
- Captures scheduling and prioritizes all requests.
- Patient and family/significant other education; staff education and in-services.
- Follows up patient VAD status, dressing changes and troubleshooting problems.
- Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.
- Current and valid RI State RN License.
- Current BLS and ACLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Infusion Nurse Certification preferred.
- Successful completion of Ultrasound guided PICC placement using Modified Seldinger Technique program.
- Minimum of three years’ nursing experience, with high level of competency in peripheral catheter placement.
- PICC and other Vascular Access Device care required.
