Varsity Girls Assistant Basketball Coach

About the Role

Collegium Charter School (CCS) is seeking a qualified, seasonal Assistant Girls Basketball Coach for the Varsity High School level. Successful candidates will have knowledge of basketball and will demonstrate effective coaching technique, leadership, and mentoring skills. The role is part-time, dependent upon the sport, with a stipend provided at the end of the season and no benefits.

Responsibilities

• Observe the rules of the PIAA, PIAA District 1, and the Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL).
• Provide leadership and general team management in the areas of daily practice, skills, and character development.
• Remain current with theories and techniques in basketball.
• Attend all coaches' meetings and collaborate with athletic director, head coach, assistant coach(es), and student manager.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, athletic administrators, students, parents, and the community.
• Evaluate and assess players' skills and select team rosters.
• Responsible for team equipment and keeping the scorebook current and available.
• Report areas of concern immediately to Athletic Directors (e.g., fields, transportation, facilities, opposing teams, student behavior, parent issues).
• Initiate appropriate and regular communication with student-athletes and parents.
• Follow school procedures regarding transportation, injuries, participation, and meals.
• Report and follow up with athletic trainer about injuries.
• Write and submit individual comments on each student as scheduled.
• Manage athletes at the appropriate level of the assigned sport.
• Monitor student-athlete academic progress and provide academic advisement.
• Enforce the CCS Student Code of Conduct.
• Promote good citizenship through actions as a role model.
• Conduct yourself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school.
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records.
• Abide by the CCS Employee Manual and all current PA Public School expectations.
• Preferred: Clean driving record and ability to drive a 9-passenger van.

Requirements

• High school or collegiate playing experience.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• A positive student-centered approach to coaching.
• A strong character with a team-oriented spirit and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community.
• Considerable knowledge of and experience coaching, including competitions, practices, and strength/conditioning.
• Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Experience working with middle and high school-aged students.
• Strong affinity for the mission of Collegium Charter School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school's mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior basketball coaching experience, preferably at the high school and/or college level.
• Demonstrated technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge pertinent to basketball.
• Driver’s License and the ability to drive a 9-passenger vehicle.
• CPR and First Aid certified.
• Availability Monday - Friday 3:30 - 5:00 PM; game schedules will vary (no weekends).

Required Upon Hire

• Required Clearances: Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of anticipated start date.
• Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School.
• First Aid Certified.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud depending on the specific site.
