Varsity Cross Country Assistant Coach (AY26-27)

About the role

BB&N is seeking a Varsity Cross Country Assistant Coach. This is a stipend, part-time position that is not eligible for employee benefits during the fall season. The assistant coach will provide examples of fair play, team building, character building, and respect for the players. The BB&N Athletic Department expects its coaches to operate within the athletic philosophy of BB&N and adhere to the BB&N coaches’ manual as well as the Independent School League (ISL) and the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) rules and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Support the practice planning and meet oversight, including teaching skill techniques and helping athletes prepare for competitive events.
• Mentor and instruct players in skill development, character development, and teamwork.
• Commit to the support and development of students with an ability and/or desire to compete at the collegiate level.
• Attend all BB&N practices, at-home and away meets, in-school events, and other related athletics functions.
• Model positive behavior, maintain a supportive environment, and exhibit a high level of professionalism.
• Work collaboratively with other coaches, parents, and community members.
• Seek assistance should emergencies arise.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Approachable, knowledgeable, collaborative, and eager to be an active member of a dynamic athletic and learning community.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes to perform at their highest level, with a commitment to academic success and character development.
• Passion for the sport and for working with middle and high school-aged students.
• Commitment to an inclusive and equitable approach to all student-athletes.
• Effective and responsible communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• High standards of professional conduct with strong interpersonal skills to handle disputes, challenges, or conflicts that may arise among athletes.
• Ability to adjust coaching methods based on individual athletes’ needs, team dynamics, and changing circumstances.

Pay

A season-long stipend of $3,000 – $3,500.

Schedule

• Fall Coaches Meeting: Monday, August 31, 2026.
• Fall season: September 2, 2026, through November 22, 2026.
• Weekly practices: 3:45 pm to 6:00 pm, with occasional morning practice.
• Games: Usually on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Holidays when school is not in session include:

• Labor Day: Monday, September 7, 2026
• Yom Kippur: Monday, September 21, 2026
• Indigenous Peoples Day: Monday, October 12, 2026
• Professional Day: Tuesday, October 13, 2026
