Temporary seasonal position for the 2026-2027 school year (August–November) at Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus.

About the role

Responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Kamehameha Athletic Sports program, including coaching, instructing students, and performing duties that develop players and teams in alignment with Kamehameha’s philosophy of athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of cross-country rules, skills, tactics, and techniques; translate this knowledge to athletes and evaluate their performance and progress.
  • Teach individual and team skills to athletes, focusing on observable outcomes beyond winning and losing.
  • Assist athletes in reaching their full potential with patience and individualized attention (without compromising team goals).
  • Organize and supervise safe, efficient practices and games, utilizing coaching staff effectively.
  • Prepare the team for competitions and conduct yourself ethically and professionally as a positive role model.
  • Motivate and inspire players with encouraging conduct and a positive attitude.
  • Develop a team concept within a values-driven framework, promoting sportsmanship, respect for rules, and respect for officials.
  • Balance skill development with team concepts and ensure each player feels part of the team.
  • Create an enjoyable environment and experience for athletes.
  • Handle administrative duties, including resolving disciplinary issues, verifying student-athlete medical and academic eligibility, and completing records (e.g., grade checks, timesheets, HR requirements).
  • Manage equipment, uniforms, and inventory; assist with planning and budgeting for the sport.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, coaches, and the community; provide timely results to school and media.
  • Promote the program in local and state communities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience.
  • National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, coaches, staff, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school or collegiate athletic participation.
  • High school or collegiate coaching experience.
  • Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical activity such as walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying.

Working Conditions

  • Work may involve travel to various locations, including neighbor islands.
  • Conducted in office/school environments and may require work in non-standard settings.
  • Typically Monday through Friday during normal business hours, but frequent evening and weekend hours are required.

Pay

One-time stipend of $3,746.00 at the end of the season.
