About the role

The Van Shuttle Operator provides regular, safe, reliable shuttle bus service to and from the hospital campus and remote parking lots, assists visitors at main entrances, and supports the Cancer Treatment Center and Security departments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular, safe, reliable shuttle bus service for employees between the Bassett Healthcare Campus and remote parking lots
  • Arrive as scheduled for daily shuttle bus service
  • Perform regular vehicle safety inspections according to hospital vehicle use policy and report deficiencies to the Network Manager of Transportation
  • Report 100% of all traffic citations received and motor vehicle collisions involving a hospital vehicle
  • Operate the shuttle safely, within DMV traffic and safety laws and regulations, with no more than one violation or accident in any calendar year
  • Operate the shuttle bus in a customer-friendly, professional manner according to customer service training, posted shuttle schedules, and approved designated pick-up or drop-off locations
  • Adhere to posted bus schedules; exceptions allowed only if traffic, construction, accidents, or similar incidents are reported
  • Pick up and drop off employees only at approved designated locations listed on the shuttle bus schedules 100% of the time
  • Operate the shuttle bus at posted speed limits or less, 100% of the time
  • Greet patients and visitors arriving at the main hospital and clinic building entrances, provide information, direction, and assist ambulatory patients from their vehicles if needed or requested
  • Provide greeter services at the main hospital and clinic entrances as scheduled
  • Offer physical assistance to ambulatory patients and visitors who request or require help getting out of or into their vehicles
  • Ensure vehicle insurance certificates, inspection certificates, registrations, and licenses are up to date for 100% of all vehicles driven
  • Ensure shuttle buses are cleaned daily
  • Provide backup transportation coverage for Cancer Treatment Center drivers and patients as needed or required
  • Provide backup transportation for Cancer Treatment Center drivers to cover vacations, holidays, and other emergencies
  • Provide additional transportation services to patients when transportation needs exceed the CTC Drivers’ capabilities
  • Adhere to schedules and appointment times for all patients being transported as determined by staff coordinating patient transportation
  • Attend all required educational sessions, courses, seminars, and meetings needed to meet organizational needs or personal development
  • Perform similar or related duties as requested or directed
  • Drive safely in winter conditions

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year previous experience driving a commercial passenger-carrying vehicle (preferred)
  • Must be able to meet criteria for NYSDOT and/or FMCSA requirements to operate a commercial motor vehicle
  • Must maintain eligibility of insurability to operate the organization’s vehicles
  • Must obtain a Class E Driver’s License within 30 days of employment
  • First Aid/CPR training (preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects (light work)
  • Occasional typing/clerical/dexterity, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping
  • Frequent grasping, hearing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking
  • Constant seeing/monitor/computer use

Working Conditions

  • Frequent mechanical hazards

Pay

Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation. Pay range: $18.02 – $27.03 per hour.
