About the role

Operate transit vehicles to safely transport passengers over specified routes according to time schedule.

Responsibilities

• Operate transit vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, Borough policy and procedures, and state and local regulations.
  • Assists physically challenged passengers with entry and exit from vehicle; assists clients with packages, parcels and deliveries as needed; delivers meals to the homebound.
  • Aid passengers with questions concerning routes, transfer points and street locations.
  • Regulate heating, lighting and ventilation systems for passengers' comfort.
  • Complete required paperwork, including special services provided.
  • Inspect bus; check gas, oil and water prior to departure and as necessary for safe operations and preventive maintenance.
  • Assist mechanics with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.
  • Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Be polite and courteous to the public.
  • Assist with translations and paperwork for elders.
  • Obtain and maintain wheelchair tie down training required by Department of Transportation.
• In the event of an emergency, follow responsibilities as outlined in the North Slope Borough and program policies and procedures and the CEMP manual.
• Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.
• Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.

Requirements

• High school graduate or G.E.D./A combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
• One year of van driving or vehicle maintenance work experience.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
• Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.
• Skills in utilizing personal computers and a variety of software applications.

Skills

• Ability to push, pull, lift and assist disabled clients.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the elderly.

Pay

Salary range: $XXX - $YYY per hour.

Schedule

Hours: 08:00 AM - 04:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
