The Wayne County Transportation Department in Honesdale, PA is hiring dependable, compassionate drivers to provide door-to-door transportation for county residents, including helping seniors access essential services and appointments. Strong communication skills and reliability are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Transportation: Operate county vehicle an average of 150 miles each day
  • Assist Door-to-Door: Willingly and patiently assist consumers, including senior adults and wheelchair-dependent consumers along rough pavement or unpaved paths, from the door of their home, on and off the vehicle, and to the door of their drop-off location
  • Participate in Teamwork: Communicate effectively both person-to-person and via two-way radio, follow directions listed on a mobile tablet, and easily adjust in daily schedule to meet consumer needs
  • Support Social Contact: Be a people-person as you will be providing important assistance and socialization throughout the day, while following a schedule
  • Help Ensure Safety: Contact a dispatcher to help correct any scheduling conflicts; complete the daily pre-trip checklist and report any issues or changes; participate in agency training

Schedule

  • Part-time employment, 14-21+ hours per week
  • Transportation operates 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturdays
  • Telework is not an option for this position

Requirements

  • Minimum Experience and Training: One year of employment which required operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty; or any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • No suspension of driver’s license within the last three years
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Pass a background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening
  • Submit and obtain approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance
  • Able to perform essential job functions
