Job Summary

The Van Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for pediatric patients to and from their scheduled appointments. This role will transport patients from their homes to the Waughtown Pediatrics clinic and return them home following their visit. The Van Driver may also provide transportation support between the clinic, X-ray department, pharmacy, and emergency room as needed. This position requires excellent customer service, safe driving practices, dependability, and the ability to work effectively with pediatric patients and their families.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare, pediatric, customer service, or patient-facing environment.
  • Experience with Epic or other electronic health record systems.
  • Experience transporting patients or working in a healthcare transportation setting.

What You'll Do

  • Safely transport patients from their homes to scheduled medical appointments and return them home following their visit.
  • Provide transportation between Waughtown Pediatrics and designated Novant Health locations, including:
    • X-ray/Radiology
    • Pharmacy
    • Emergency Department
  • Operate a 14-passenger van in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Pick up and return the company vehicle as directed; the van will be located at the Ebert Road location.
  • Conduct routine vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist patients and families with entering and exiting the vehicle as appropriate.
  • Maintain a professional, welcoming, and patient-focused environment throughout transportation.
  • Communicate effectively with clinic staff regarding patient transportation schedules and changes.
  • Follow all Novant Health policies, transportation procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient information.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors, and team members.
  • May be cross-trained to contact patients and assist with patient outreach and scheduling activities within Epic.
  • Assist the clinic with other operational needs as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: High School or GED (Required).
  • Experience: One year experience working in long-term care or assisted living, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: CPR/First Aid/AED within 60 days of hire, required.
  • Valid Driver's license in good standing in appropriate state, required.
  • VA Drivers record in good standing (Required).

Additional Skills/Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have ability to drive 14-passenger bus.
