Safety and Responsibilities

• Safely operate facility-owned vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws and regulations.
• Transport residents to medical appointments, therapy visits, community events, and other scheduled destinations.
• Aid residents entering and exiting the vehicle, including the use of wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices as needed.
• Secure wheelchairs and passenger restraints according to safety standards.
• Maintain transportation schedules and communicate delays or concerns to appropriate staff.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and ready for use.
• Monitor resident safety and comfort during transport.
• Provide friendly, respectful, and professional customer service to residents, families, healthcare providers, and the public.
• Assist with resident activities and special events when transportation duties permit.
• Complete required transportation logs, mileage records, and incident reports.
• Follow all facility policies, resident rights, confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience working with older adults is preferred.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrates patience, compassion, and respect for older adults. Knowledge of defensive driving and safe transportation practices. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
• Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to assist residents with transfers and mobility needs. Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver wheelchairs and mobility equipment. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach frequently throughout the workday. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
