About the role
The Value Stream Manager is responsible for managing daily operations in a food manufacturing facility, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. This role oversees staffing, production, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with company goals and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates to plan department operations.
- Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
- Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
- Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
- Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to the Senior Production Manager or Plant Manager for action.
- Fills in on floor if needed to ensure production timelines and KPI’s are achieved.
- Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of Southwest Cheese non-negotiables.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of HACCP principles and food safety standards.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, GMP).
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in data analysis and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in manufacturing operations and continuous improvement practices.
- Working knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, shipping, receiving, and material flow, with the ability to partner with warehouse leadership to drive operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Compliance with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
- Compliance with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Food Safety Modernization Act- FSMA, Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance).
- Ensuring proper inventory management practices, including cycle counts, stock rotation (FIFO), product traceability, and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
- Cross-functional coordination with Production, Quality, and Logistics teams to ensure timely movement of raw materials and finished goods while optimizing warehouse space utilization.
- Maintaining warehouse KPIs related to inventory accuracy, shipping performance, and material flow, implementing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.
