About the role
The Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Patient Coordinator is a registered nurse with clinical expertise in VAD and heart failure care. They apply evidence-based practices, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage patient care from pre-implant evaluation through discharge and ongoing support.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate the competency of staff, patients, families, and community resources related to VAD care.
- Serve as a research coordinator or co-investigator for national studies on VAD and heart failure, applying research to improve practice.
- Manage cases for VAD patients, including education, equipment, supplies, and policy adherence.
- Promote patient and staff satisfaction through relationship building and communication.
- Lead interdisciplinary collaboration, ensure safety, and handle clinical situations independently.
- Conduct patient assessments, preoperative education, and post-discharge support, including on-call availability.
- Maintain data and coordinate documentation for implantations and patient status updates.
- Develop policies, procedures, and performance metrics for the VAD program.
Qualifications
- BSN or recent VAD experience.
- Two years of clinical nursing experience.
- Knowledge of computer systems and regulatory reporting.
- RN licensure in Ohio.
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
