About the role

As a lecturer in Hispanic and Hispanic-American Literature and Culture, you will be part of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures and will provide Bachelor-level education in the Romance Languages and Cultures study programme, with a focus on Modern Hispanic and Hispanic-American Literature and Culture. You may also participate in the Department’s language proficiency education, assist students with writing theses and projects, carry out support activities, and actively contribute to the improvement and further development of the curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures on Modern Hispanic and Hispanic-American Literature and Culture within the Romance Languages and Cultures study programme.
  • Participate in language proficiency education as needed.
  • Supervise and assist students with writing theses and projects.
  • Carry out educational support tasks within the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.
  • Actively contribute to the improvement and further development of the curriculum for Hispanic and Hispanic-American Literature and Culture.

Requirements

  • Hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Hispanic Culture and/or Literature.
  • Demonstrable experience providing university-level education in Hispanic culture and/or literature, including supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
  • Experience teaching non-native speakers at an academic level.
  • Capability and willingness to contribute to curriculum development and educational support tasks.
  • Hold a Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO) or be willing to obtain one within an agreed timeframe.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish; Dutch language skills (written and spoken) are preferred.
  • Proficiency in English at Cambridge Certificate level C2 or willingness to develop this proficiency within one year.

Pay

A maximum gross monthly salary of €4,978 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11). The exact salary depends on qualifications and relevant professional experience.

In addition to the salary, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

Schedule

Employment: 12 – 20 hours per week.

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with an intended start date of 1 August 2020.
